Manufacturing Process

The manufacturing process starts with the veneer selection from all ready graded veneer flitches (bundles of sliced veneer). These veneers are parallel clipped to size using specialized guillotines and then jointed to create a useable sheet size known as a layon.

The joining process is mainly done either by stitching ( applying a fibreglass glue thread in a zigzag pattern to the underside of the veneer) or splicing (veneer leaves are edge glued together) through specialized machines. For specialist segmented or intricate veneer work paper tape applied by hand is mainly used as the method of joining in this skilled and labour intensive craft.

The next stage of the manufacturing process is pressing. Pressing is the process of bonding with glue the veneer layons to a substrate of either Particleboard, MDF Plywood using specialized pressing equipment which generally applies heat and pressure.

In most cases the sheets are then trimmed and sanded to produce a neat clean panel suitable for further sanding and finishing as required.

The overall manufacturing process is quality controlled at various visual inspection points during the veneer preparation and panel pressing line processes.
